Absolutely! Children begin learning about the Catholic faith from the time they begin in our EC 3 class. Our students use the Sadlier religion books, called "We Believe" and "We Live Our Faith." To learn more about this series, please visit Sadlier's website.

The main focus of the Home & School Association is fundraising and fellowship. It is a great way to build community among Association members, parents and teachers, as well as the practical aspects of raising funds to support our School. Being a member of the Association is a great way to support your children's education, meet new parents and share your ideas to further enhance our children's school. In addition to providing fellowship opportunities, our Association raises funds for the school. As you may be aware, tuition alone does not cover all of the school's operating expenses; therefore, St. Paul's relies on the Home & School Association to coordinate fundraising events such as the Annual Auction. The Home & School Association, through the creation and organization of multiple fundraising events, is vital to St. Paul Catholic School.

St. Paul Catholic School follows the Diocesan guidelines in keeping our books updated. There is a cycle. A review committee will look at new textbooks in about year 6 of the cycle, planning to purchase for year 7 or 8 (depending on the subject area being considered). As an example, Language Arts will be reviewed and purchased one year, Mathematics the next, Social Studies, etc. so that the school does not need to incur the expense of purchasing ALL textbooks for ALL subjects in one school year.

The procedure is to have a textbook committee comprised of several experienced teachers and the principal or assistant principal. They review the major publishers and consider several things prior to making a recommendation. Among considerations is how well the text aligns to the standards being taught (we use the Diocese of St. Petersburg's Standards and Benchmarks which mirror the Florida Sunshine State Standards. This year we added the National Common Core Standards), the complexity of the text, on-line support, leveled readers and supplemental materials. The committee makes a presentation to the staff and principal and makes their recommendation. The final purchasing decision rests with the principal.

Textbooks typically cost between $60 to $80 per book. Workbooks cost between $15 to $30 per book. St. Paul purchases the books and the students "rent" them for the school year. The fee is included in the Books and Supplies fee of $235 per child per year.

St. Paul Catholic School is closely monitoring the data available on students using E-books, both on their own personally purchased i-pad or school -purchased electronics. We currently have a policy where students in grades 4-8 may bring their own electronic devices to be used for reading. Teachers are free to allow students to read on their i-pads or Nooks. One reason we have not fully embraced virtual books is that many textbook companies have not fully moved to digital textbooks. Another difficulty is working out the legal logistics of inappropriate data on devices, etc, as well as insuring the safety and charging of these devices. However, most of our classes are now supplied with a 1:1 Chromebook system with the remaining classes at a 2:1 student to device ratio and plans to go 1:1 throughout the entire school. Our middle school math, science, and social studies classes have moved to an e-book format at the preset time.
