Mr. Brendan Butcher
Principal
Mr. Butcher was born and raised in Owosso, MI and has been living in St. Petersburg for the past 5 years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and a Master of Education degree from the University of Notre Dame.
Mr. Butcher passionately believes in the power of a strong, Catholic education. His #1 goal for all students at St. Paul Catholic School is that every day they grow a little bit deeper in a real and personal encounter with Christ. This is Mr. Butcher’s first year serving as the principal of St. Paul.

Sister Joan Carberry, OSF
Assistant Principal
Sister Joan Carberry, a native of Providence, RI, has been a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany for 64 years. The Franciscan Sisters of Allegany founded St. Paul Catholic School in 1930.
Sister is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University. Most of Sister's teaching career has been in grades 4 thru 8 in schools in New York, New Jersey and North Carolina. Sister is also a certified chaplain in the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and has ministered in Pastoral Care Departments in St Mary Hospital, West Palm Beach and in St. Anthony Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Julie Volpe
Office Assistant
Mrs. Volpe has been a secretary at St. Paul Catholic School for twenty years. She grew up on a dairy farm in Troy, PA, and graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors in Business Education before moving to St. Petersburg. Her son Michael and his wife Willa live in Savannah, GA and her son Cole, lives in St. Petersburg. Both boys are graduates of St. Paul's and St. Pete Catholic. Julie has her private pilots license and enjoys any activity that involves the outdoors.

Heather Orsini
Early Childhood-3 Teacher
Mrs. Orsini was born in Massachusetts and grew up in New Hampshire and the Florida Keys. Early Childhood-4 Teacher
Ms. Waterman grew up in New Jersey. She is a graduate of Mount Saint Mary's University where she majored in psychology with minors in education and sociology. She received her child development associate degree (CDA) at Saint Petersburg College. Her three grown children all attended St. Paul's. She loves teaching EC-4 and creating a learning environment in which the students are successfully prepared for kindergarten. Ms. Waterman co-teaches the after-school art club. Outside of school she likes running, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Amy Kafantaris
Grades 1-2 Reading and Math Teacher
Mrs. Kafantaris is a proud graduate of the University of Florida (BA, MA). She taught high school Latin for 29 years, with the last 19 years at Academy of the Holy Names. Mrs. "Kaf" has been a first grade assistant at St. Paul’s for 8 years. She enjoys travel, cooking, reading and attending her children’s tennis tournaments and soccer matches. Mrs. Kaf has a son who is an eighth grader at St.Paul’s and a daughter who is a sophomore at St. Pete Catholic.

Second Grade Homeroom Teacher
Mrs. Schamp is originally from Denver, CO. She graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in early childhood education and a minor in Spanish. She earned her M.A. in Education in 2013. Mrs. Schamp is also a National Board Certified Teacher in language arts and reading for early and middle childhood. She taught for eight years in Denver Public Schools before moving to St. Petersburg, FL. She previously taught second grade at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School in Seminole for three years. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with running, going to the beach, and spending time with her family.

Second Grade Teacher
Mrs. Fernald is originally from Boston, Massachusetts. She and her husband have 3 grown children who graduated from St. Paul’s. They have 8 grandchildren, 3 have graduated from St. Paul’s. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She previously taught second grade at the Cathedral School of St. Jude for 18 years. She enjoys reading, walking, and spending time with her family.

Michele Santoro
Third Grade Homeroom Teacher
Mrs. Santoro is originally from New Jersey and has recently moved to Riverview, FL. She graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and recently received her certification in Orton-Gillingham. She has tutored children in grades K-5 for 8 years and has been teaching for 15 years. She also owned a Preschool for many years teaching Pre-K. Mrs. Santoro was a Religious Educator at her Catholic Parish in NJ, where she taught her children their faith. Mrs. Santoro has been married for 25 years. They have 3 children, ages 18, 20 and 21, who all attend college. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and their two Rottweilers going to the beach.

Mr. Connors was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He attended Eckerd College, where he earned a degree in Literature with minors in Creative Writing, Theatre, and Religion. He subsequently earned a master's degree in Theatre from Indiana University - Bloomington. He also serves as co-director of the Drama Club for intermediate grades as well as the Yearbook advisor.

After graduating, she taught 5th grade for one year at a small Catholic school in Carroll, IA before moving to St. Petersburg. Her hobbies include making art, listening to and making music, playing sports, and all sorts of technology from video games to building her own computer. She also loves to be active at church and did lots of ministry and mission work throughout high school and college.

Ms. Lusk grew up in Pikeville, Kentucky. She has attended both Pikeville College and Georgetown University where she studied Elementary Education and Middle School Science Education. Ms. Lusk also has a Juris Doctor (J.D.), or law degree. Ms. Lusk has Florida certifications in Middle School Science, Middle School Math, and Elementary Education. She began teaching at St. Paul in 1990, after teaching computer science at a junior college for four years and kindergarten for one year. She also taught one year in a Nashville, TN, inner city middle school while on a one year sabbatical. Ms. Lusk has always taught middle school science and math here at St. Paul. She also volunteers to help students with math or science at least one day per week during after school planning time. Outside school, Ms. Lusk enjoys sports and is a huge Colts fan. Ms. Lusk also loves, traveling, and reading, especially mystery and science fiction novels.

Betsy Alonzo

Mrs. Alonzo was raised in Woodridge, Illinois. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in Elementary Education, she taught middle school at a Catholic school in Illinois for four years. After completing her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Northern Illinois University, Mrs. Alonzo moved to St. Petersburg and began teaching at St. Paul’s in 1993. She is certified to teach grades 1-6, Math grades 5-9, and Social Studies grades 5-9 in Florida. Because of her love for and confidence in St. Paul’s, both of her sons are proud St. Paul’s graduates. Outside of school, Mrs. Alonzo likes to spend time with family and friends, travel, bake and read.

Natalie Hahn
Grades 4-8 Religion Teacher
Ms. Hahn is thrilled to be joining the St. Paul family as the new religion teacher this year. Ms. Hahn earned her Bachelor of Science in Architecture and her Minor in Theology and Religious Studies from the Catholic University of America. She is a local of the Tampa Bay area and parishioner of Christ the King Parish, where she has volunteered as a religious education catechist for the past four years. Ms. Hahn is excited to help nurture the faith journey of her students by cultivating their Catholic values and emphasizing their roles and worth as children of God.

Mrs. Zacher grew up in Rochester, Minnesota. She received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of SE Minnesota and her Masters degree in curriculum at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Her last teaching assignment was for Pinellas County School Board. One her daughters and two of her grandchildren have graduated from St. Paul’s.
Resource Teacher (Grades 3 and 5 Math & Reading)
Mrs. Zacher grew up in Rochester, Minnesota. Technology Teacher/IT
Mr. Wassmer was born in San Francisco, CA. He has lived in Florida since 1999 and has 3 younger sisters, all of which are graduates of St. Paul's. He, his wife, and daughter live in Riverview and have been a part of the St. Paul's Community for several years. He studied Mathematics at the University of South Florida and has been teaching at St. Paul's since 2011. Mr. Wassmer has also been a tutor and camp counselor for several companies. He teaches the Technology classes for all grades and manages the middle school Theatre program. He feels very blessed to be able to teach at St. Paul's.

Music Teacher
Ms. Asenova was born and raised in Bulgaria. She started playing music at the age of 5 and graduated high school with a major in piano. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a Master's degree in Choir Conducting. She is very passionate about her subject and has 25 years of experience in teaching. She strongly believes that music holds great benefits to every child's development and strives to cultivate and nurture that love for music in each student.

Coach Moran has been a part of the Diocesan education system since elementary school, having attended Incarnation Catholic School in Tampa and graduating from Tampa Catholic High School. Coach Moran has a B.A. in Education from USF and an M.A. in Educational Leadership.
He has been a Diocesan teacher, coach, and AD with 22 years experience at St. Petersburg Catholic High School and Corpus Christi Catholic School. Coach Moran also coached basketball at the collegiate level having been an assistant coach at Spring Hill in Mobile, Al and The University of Tampa from 1993-1998.
Coach Moran believes that participation in athletics can contribute to the development of the whole student. In his spare time, Coach Moran enjoys playing golf and rooting for our professional home teams.

Martha Marquez-Miller
Spanish Teacher
Mrs. Marquez-Miller was born in Tangancicuaro, Mich. Mexico, and was raised in Gary, Indiana. Her family immigrated to Gary in the winter of 1975. She is the 5th child of 8 children. She moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in the summer of 1996 with her husband Scott.
Mrs. Marquez-Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University. She taught at Lanier Elementary School in Tampa for 3 years before she had her two beautiful children Otilia and Scotty. She has been at St. Paul in her current teaching position since 2007. She absolutely loves exposing her students to her native language, the hispanic culture, customs, and traditions.
Mrs. Marquez-Miller loves spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys watching movies, going out on walks, bike rides, and camping!

She taught at Lanier Elementary School in Tampa for 3 years before she had her two beautiful children Otilia and Scotty. She has been at St. Paul in her current teaching position since 2007. She absolutely loves exposing her students to her native language, the hispanic culture, customs, and traditions.
Mrs. Marquez-Miller loves spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys watching movies, going out on walks, bike rides, and camping!

Mandy Hand

Mrs. Hand has been teaching Visual Arts at St. Paul’s since 2003. Her passion for art began as a child, and she has fostered that interest most every day since then. She grew up in Winter Park, Florida and has lived in St. Petersburg since 1987. She graduated from Florida State University with degrees in Communications, Business and Dental Hygiene. She spent 15 years in the advertising industry working in all types of communication arts. She enjoys helping children realize their creative potential, and has worked successfully to instill that in her own three children, two of whom are St. Paul graduates. She conducts after-school art classes at St. Paul's and has spent many summers teaching at the Morean Arts Center downtown. Her other interests include residential St. Petersburg real estate (she is also a Realtor), as well as interior design, gardening and theatre.

Mrs. Burns grew up here in St. Petersburg. She majored in Elementary Education at the University of South Florida. Mrs. Burns taught EC-3 from 2008-2010 and then Kindergarten until 2020. She now serves the school as Librarian working with students of all ages.

Fran Jaynal
Accelerated Learning Program Instructor
Ms. Jaynal is a native New Yorker and has lived in St Petersburg, Florida since 2003. She received a solid Catholic school education beginning at Sacred Heart School for elementary then on to The Ursuline School for high school and graduated from Manhattanville College with a B.A. in Management. Ms Jaynal then earned her J.D. from New England Law in Boston, MA. Ms. Jaynal developed a strong sense of service as a young adult involved in local soup kitchens and church sponsored community outreach programs and continues to volunteer with her children, Stephen and Lyla, in local community programs.
She enjoys paddle boarding the vast bayous in the the area, sunny days on the beach with family and friends and exploring new places and events in downtown St Pete.
Ms.Jaynal has been on the staff of St. Paul’s since 2015 after enjoying many years as a parent volunteer.

Catherine Barber was born and raised in New York and has been living in St. Petersburg since 1991.
Catherine and her family have been part of the St. Paul’s community for many years. Catherine has two adult children who are graduates of St Paul’s and has three granddaughters, two of which also attend St. Paul’s.
Catherine has been working in EC4 since 2020.
